Sångaren, låtskrivaren och skivproducenten Gene Chandler (Eugene Dixon är hans riktiga nman) föddes den 6 juli 1937 i Chicago, Illinois, USA. Han är känd under smeknamnen "The Duke of Earl" och "The Duke".

1962 fick han en stor hit med låten "Duke of Earl". Den låg etta både på R'n'B-listan och pop-listan.
